Physicochemical properties : white or light pink crystalline powder, which gradually turns red when exposed to the air. Slightly soluble in water (~ 0.024g/100ml), insoluble in ether, soluble in ethanol, acetone and other organic solvents. The solution is easier to oxidize than the solid and gradually turns yellow and brown. The reagent reacts with a variety of metals: Ag + (purple), Ni2 + (blue) and Pb2 + (orange blue). The reaction mechanism between the reagent and CrO42 - is still not completely clear. Some people think that diphenylcarbazide is oxidized from CrO42 - to diphenylsemicarbazone, and the latter forms a complex with Cr3 +. The formed complex cation combines with Cl - to form an ion pair, which can be extracted by pentanol. The reaction principle of Cu2 +, Fe2 +, Hg +, Hg2 +, Se4 + and TcO4 - with reagents is similar to that of CrO42 -, i.e., redox and complexation reactions

Purpose: biochemical research. Used as an indicator when titrating iron. Colorimetric determination of chromium, mercury and lead, detection of cadmium, mercury, magnesium, aldehydes and alkaline earth. Chlorination reduction indicator for determination of dichromate. It is an adsorption indicator for the determination of chloride and cyanide by mercurimetry. (used as a developer for spectrophotometric determination of chromium and for verification of Cu2 +, Fe3 +, Hg2 +, etc. it is also used as an indicator for oxidation-reduction, adsorption and coordination titration.)
