Physicochemical properties: an alkaline antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis prepared from Streptomyces erytheus culture medium. White or milky crystal or powder. It is soluble in ethanol, methanol, acetone, chloroform, acetonitrile and ethyl acetate, and moderately soluble in ether, dichloromethane and amyl acetate. Insoluble in water. Slightly hygroscopic, odorless and bitter. Unstable in acid
Purpose: biochemical research. During the extended inhibition period of the peptide transfer step, erythromycin resistance to bacteria is induced by binding to ribosomes to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis. Antibacterial spectrum: gram negative and positive bacteria. It is a macrolide antibiotic.
