Physicochemical properties: white or light yellow powder. A hydrophilic polysaccharide from kelp, a seaweed plant, is almost odorless and tasteless. It is sensitive to humidity, slowly soluble in water, forming a viscous colloidal solution, and insoluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform and acids with pH lower than 3. The solution will not condense when heated. The pH value of 1% aqueous solution is 6-8, and the viscosity is stable when the pH value is 6-9. When heated to more than 80 ℃, the viscosity decreases.
Purpose: biochemical research. It can be used as stabilizer, thickener, artificial semi permeable membrane and mordant
