Physicochemical Properties: bright yellow crystal or white powder, with a slight pungent smell. It is stable in air and decomposes in sunlight. 1g is soluble in about 60ml ethanol, 10ml benzene, 50ml vegetable oil, chloroform and carbon tetrachloride. Insoluble in water. Ethanol solution is neutral to litmus test paper. The solution will not decompose when heated to 120 ℃. It will be destroyed in case of alkali and reductant. Toxic, with a median lethal dose (mouse, oral) of about 500mg/kg. Irritating. There are also sodium bisulfite menadione, which is a white crystalline powder. No smell or slight special smell. Hygroscopic. It is easy to decompose and turn yellow or purple when exposed to light. It is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and almost insoluble in ether and benzene.
