It is slowly soluble in cold water or almost insoluble in water (depending on its composition), and insoluble in ethanol. Melting point 976 ℃.

Purpose: biochemical research. Protective coating (preventing "frosting", i.e. salt surface crystallization). catalyzer. Adhesives.
