Physicochemical properties : blue powder or lump. The main components are alkali metal compounds of litmus (azolitmus) and red litmus (erythro litmin). Partially soluble in water and ethanol and blue. When acid is added, the solution turns red, and when excess alkali is added, the solution turns blue again.
Purpose: biochemical research. Acid base indicator. Prepare litmus test paper. Medium staining for microscopic diagnosis
